Ninetheenth-century actress and opera singer Lillian Russell weighed 200 lbs and was considered the "ideal" woman in the 1890s. In the 1950's Marilyn Monroe @ 5ft 1/2 in tall & weighing 140 lbs was the standard of centerfold beauty. Just a decade after Marilyn Monroe's size 14 beauty captured America, British teenager Lesley Hornby(Twiggy) became the world's 1st international supermodel and the "Twiggy" look of anorexic thinness was in. The workout craze of the 1980's brought images of fitness as the next American beauty trend.
Interesting survey:
A survey found that seven out of ten girls said they wanted to look like a television character. Nearly one-third said that they had changed their appearance to become more like the TV character. Sixteen percent (nearly one in five) said that they had dieted or exercised to look more like a TV character.
